As a beginning graphic design student, I remember proudly presenting a copy of my punk rock zine, Antfarm, to one of my professors at Boise State. He thumbed through the folded Xerox pages, sighed, and then suggested I change my major to ceramics. I stubbornly ignored his advice and continued on as a design student. Somehow I persevered, graduated and found a home as a designer and Creative Director at DaviesMoore. I hardly ever think about that career in ceramics.
My introduction to graphic design was at Lewiston High School where I learned old school “paste-up” in journalism class. After a post-high school detour in Montana where I graduated as a valedictorian of Miles Community College, I decided to move back to Idaho and attend BSU. I picked Boise specifically because my favorite record at the time (Built to Spill’s “Ultimate Alternative Wavers”) came from here. In two decades in Boise, my love of music and art have led me to poster design, band photography, animated music videos and other collaborations with local bands that keep me busy during my non-working hours. At DaviesMoore I’ve had fun working on projects big and small for clients like Idaho Department of Health & Welfare, Premier Insurance, University of Idaho, the Idaho Lottery, WinCo and many others. Our sponsorship and work for the Treefort Music Festival is something I’m very proud of as a professional and a local music fan.
In my spare time, I love hanging out with my wife and kids, and obsessing over my Pentax camera collection (more on that here: Pentaxagram). Here’s one of my favorite work projects… all the paper pieces for this video were hand-cut and animated by yours truly.
